Required Web-based Report for HEERF I Student Aid

SUNY Niagara acknowledges an authorized representative of the institution has signed and returned to the Department the Certification and Agreement and the institution have used or intends to use, no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.

SUNY Niagara has received or will receive $1,799,454.00 from the Department of Education pursuant to the Certification and Agreement [for] Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.

SUNY Niagara has distributed: $1,799,454 under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act as of January 8, 2021.

SUNY Niagara has determined an estimated 1406 students at the institution are eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus eligible to receive SUNY Niagara has prioritized awarding of Emergency Financial Aid Grants to its students in the following manner (methodology).

SUNY Niagara’s COVID-19 Emergency funding will be disbursed to students using the following formulas. $1,439,564.00 (80% of SUNY Niagara’s $1,799,455.00 initial award) will be immediately disbursed to all Title IV eligible students that complete SUNY Niagara’s Emergency Grant Application. All applications submitted by students will be reviewed for approval by the above-mentioned Emergency Funds Committee members and be awarded up to a maximum grant of $1000.00 until all $1,439,564.00 is exhausted. If there is funding remaining after all applications have been initially reviewed, applications will then be re-reviewed based on the lowest EFC’s and awarded for additional student expenses exceeding the original award of $1000.00 up to an amount of $6,195.00( the maximum PELL award for 19-20).

The remaining 20% ($359,891) of Emergency funding will be held by SUNY Niagara for a period no longer than a year from the date of receipt of the award. SUNY Niagara will use this funding to ensure that continuing students that have been impacted by the pandemic and are TITLE IV eligible can return to college for future semesters and offset their expenses caused by COVID-19. SUNY Niagara is concerned that this cohort of students will be underemployed or unemployed by economic conditions caused by the pandemic and will lack the financial resources to attend or return to classes for the 20-21 academic year. SUNY Niagara is confident that this initiative will help support continuing students to complete their course work a concept, which is consistent with the COVID-19 Grant, created by the Department of Education and endorsed by the Chancellor of SUNY.

Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.

856 students have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act as of the 8th of January 2021.

SUNY Niagara has prioritized awarding of Emergency Financial Aid Grants to its students in the following manner (methodology).

Under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act, students received awards ranging from $1.00 to $6195.00

Eligible students will be notified in the following manner:

Eligible students will receive the following email: You are receiving this email in response to the COVID-19 crisis. SUNY Niagara converted all classes to online learning during the spring 2020 semester and vacated student housing. The federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act authorizes colleges to award emergency aid grants to Title IV eligible students for their expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus, such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and child-care expenses. The attached application allows students to request a federal CARES Emergency Grant.

Please complete the attached application if you, the student, have already incurred expenses that are related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus. In order for an incurred expense to be eligible, it must be related to the disruption of campus operations. Eligible expenses include food, housing, course materials, technology and computer, health care, dependent care, transportation, and other. The maximum grant is $6,195 for the 2019-20 aid year.
