Mr. Michael Messina graduated from Niagara County Community College in 1983 with his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice. He then earned his Bachelor’s Degree from SUNY Buffalo State College in Criminal Justice and graduate course work in 1986 from Webster University.

At age 17, Michael enlisted as a Private in the United States Army and earned his way to Lt. Colonel in the United States Air Force retiring after 32 years of service. He actively served with numerous operations including Katrina, Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraq Freedom, World Special Olympics, Golden Age Games, and the 1996 Olympics.

Concurrently, Michael dedicated 20 years to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Department as Road Patrol Deputy, Road Patrol Sergeant, and Investigator, assigned to the Drug Task Force, Criminal Bureau, and the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force. In addition to these responsibilities, he was a member of the Honor Guard, Underwater Response Team, DARE Instructor, Police Academy Instructor, and the Hostage Negotiation Team. He was a Certified Critical Incident Stress Debriefer, Law Enforcement Peer Counselor, and an Employee Assistance Program Contact.

Michael is also a graduate of the National FBI Academy. After retiring, he worked as the Chief of Policy for the WNY Buffalo VA Medical Center where he developed the first Federal Court Diversion Program. Currently, he works as Intelligence for the United States Coast Guard and earned a letter of commendation for his work during the 2016 RNC.

For several decades, Michael has and continues to be instrumental to the success of the Canadian American Law Enforcement Organization, holding multiple positions with the Board of Directors, expanding membership, and obtaining speakers. He also prides himself on being an ambassador for any out-of-town guests to our region.

Michael believes that NCCC provided him with the educational foundation for his Law Enforcement Career in which he has earned numerous honors. He proudly shares his story with others and encourages them to receive their education from NCCC.
