P/T Technical Assistant (Academic Tutor)

DESCRIPTION:

Part-time, ten month, grant-funded (Liberty Partnerships Program), position reporting to the Program Administrator of the Liberty Partnerships Program.

The Technical Assistant is responsible for providing academic tutoring to Grades 5-12 students in partner school districts. Remuneration is $13.00 per hour for up to 18 hours per week.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

  1. Assists Program Administrator in determining students’ skill areas requiring additional assistance.
  2. Conducts individualized tutorial sessions for students with academic deficiencies.
  3. Tracks student participation in tutoring sessions.
  4. Attends and chaperones field trips.
  5. Assists staff in providing specialized workshops for Liberty participants.
  6. Other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Must be able to relate to students considered to be "at risk" of dropping out of school; interact with partner schools teachers, staff and parents.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate’s Degree in related area. One (1) year full-time or equivalent part-time paid, professional experience working in an educational setting; preferably providing academic remediation.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field; experience working with students identified as "at risk".
