Technical Assistant Chemistry

Full-Time, 10 month term (tenure track) position in the Division of Science, Health, and Mathematics. Responsibilities include support for the chemistry teaching faculty, supervision of the laboratories, maintaining chemistry stockrooms primarily serving chemistry labs, purchasing, inventory management, chemical handling and chemical disposal. In addition, the position will require oversight of all laboratory and preparation spaces to ensure a fully functional and safe educational space. The selected candidate will also assist in the training of adjunct faculty and ensure compliance with the college Chemical Hygiene plan. The selected candidate will also be required to perform other job-related tasks for faculty in the Chemistry Department or the Science, Health and Mathematics Division. A full list of duties will be provided at the interview. The current annual salary for a 10 month Technical Assistant position is $36,509. The position is available to start on August 24, 2017.
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related area; experience with general and organic chemistry laboratories, chemical preparation, laboratory safety, calculations used in chemical analysis, and laboratory equipment maintenance. Familiarity with computer software applications including spreadsheets, safety data sheets, proper chemical storage requirements and proper waste disposal procedures.
Master’s Degree in Chemistry or related area; training in safe handling of chemicals; experience with electronic chemical inventory systems; 2 or more years of experience with oversight of chemical storage and waste disposal; 2 or more years of experience working in academic or industrial laboratory environments.
