Infection Control and Barrier Precautions is a continuing education course which meets the requirements for New York State Department of Health and State Education Department license. The course is divided into 6 learning modules that follow the NYS syllabus for Infection Control. These elements address the transmission of pathogens, professional responsibility to adhere to practices and principles of infection control, methods to decrease risk of occupational exposure, strategies to reduce patient's risk of hospital acquired infections and strategies for post-exposure management in the event that you are exposed to HIV/HBV/HCV or other blood borne pathogens.

This course is required for Dental Hygienists, Dentists, Licensed Practical Nurses, Optometrists, Physicians, Physician Assistants, Podiatrists, Registered Professional Nurses, specialist assistants medical students, medical residents and physician assistant students; and is required every four years. The course is required because the incidence of health care associated infections has increased in hospitalized patients despite advances in medical technology, antibiotic therapy and shortened patient stays. Many of these occurrences could be prevented by adhering to infection control guidelines.

On-line Class: This is a NCCC created and delivered web based course. Enrollment is open. Once registered, the instructor will send you a welcome letter with your course access information.
