August 21, 2018
Representatives from Niagara County Community College (NCCC) and the Niagara County Sheriff's Office signed a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday to formalize their ongoing efforts to provide additional security at the NCCC Sanborn campus.
Dr. William Murabito, NCCC Interim President and Niagara County Sheriff James R. Voutour signed an agreement stating that the Sheriff's Office will provide a uniformed, off-duty Deputy Sheriff to respond to law enforcement incidents, patrol school grounds and offer a visible deterrent to deal with law enforcement incidents and other emergencies that occur on the NCCC Sanborn campus. This agreement is part of a new campus public safety model that will include armed campus peace officers in addition to the current staff.
The signing was held during a presentation at the NCCC Board of Trustees meeting on the NCCC Sanborn campus.
Ross Annable, Chief of Campus Public Safety, outlined other changes being made in the office. "Beginning in the 2018 fall semester, NCCC Public Safety will be making some significant changes in the way operate. Not only will we have a presence of a Niagara County Sheriff's deputy on campus from Monday – Friday, but we will also see new technology in the office in radio communications and computer programs.
We will continue to implement the "Public Safety" model on campus, which includes armed campus peace officers in addition to the current staff. The Niagara County Sheriff's Office will offer assistance in training existing personnel."
