Overview

The Fine Arts degree program curriculum at SUNY Niagara is designed to provide students with a solid introduction to the fundamental aspects of art. This grounding in the principles of art serves as a base for future growth and specialization.

Graduates have transferred to four-year institutions such as:

  • Art Institute of Chicago
  • The Cleveland School of Art
  • Daemen College
  • Fashion Institute of Technology
  • Pratt Institute
  • Rochester Institute of Technology
  • SUNY at Buffalo
  • SUNY Colleges at Brockport, Buffalo, Fredonia, New Paltz and Purchase
Program Goals and Objectives
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of the foundational concepts and fundamental principles of creating and appreciating art.
  • Demonstrate competent use of a range of studio media and equipment and an understanding of the methods and processes involved in developing a work of art.
  • Demonstrate critical problem-solving skills by designing appropriate solutions to a series of studio problems.
  • Evaluate professional and/or career options in the arts.
  • Successfully transfer to a four-year baccalaureate program in an art, design or other related field.

Jason Dittly

The program takes students through a progression of classes that establish a strong foundation. You are given help with preparing a portfolio if your plan is to transfer to a four-year school, but also encouraged to find out what you enjoy doing creatively. You learn to appreciate and expand your creativity and potential. As you start unlocking your abilities, your world opens and diversifies. The professors here are established and respected professionals who are actively involved in what they teach. Students are coached to discover their unique talents and pushed towards their personal best.

Degree Program Learning Outcomes

The assessment of student learning outcomes is not only a key indicator of program effectiveness, it is also one of the standards of excellence identified by the Middle States Commission (Standard 5) and is required through the SUNY assessment initiative.
