CORNELL COOPERATIVE EXTENSION

Exploring the Small Farm Dream: Is Starting an Agricultural Business Right for You?

Are you interested in starting a small farm business? What type of information do you need to start? What type of farming enterprise would you like to develop?

If these questions are on your mind, you should enroll in our workshop series, a program of the New England Small Farm Institute and offered by Cornell Cooperative Extension, Niagara County, and the Niagara County Community College Small Business Development Center.

The workshop series is designed to help those in the initial stages of thinking about starting an agricultural business. Topics include: exploring farm options, pre-venture considerations and critical issues, “reality check” on personal and business goals, mapping practical steps, market research and inventory of resources, risks and satisfaction from a small farm investment.

The course will be taught by Paul Lehman, Extension Educator; area Extension specialist staff, farmers; and Small Business Development Center staff.

This interactive workshop will include discussion, case study and research by each participant. A $95 registration fee and application is required.

Applications are required and are available by calling 716-433-8839 x221 or by accessing: http://counties.cce.cornell.edu/niagara/. There are a limited number of seats available for this workshop. The deadline for applications is February 9, 2009.
